The effectiveness of our attack was now certain, and a message, 'Surprise attack successful!' was accordingly sent to Akagi [Flagship of the Japanese attack fleet] at 07:53. The message was received by the carrier and duly relayed to the homeland. The people back home were happy that the attack on the enemy was successful, but they were afraid that the Americans would attack. When the nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima, the Japanese teenagers in other regions were frightened for their lives. It was a nightmare. No one knew what the next day would bring. Radio was a very useful way of knowing what was happening in Japan, but no one could predict the future. I think everyone will remember this day, and the sorrow it brought among us. |
